It’s in our nature to favor certain numbers. I think there are certain displacements that we like to see and if the engine is more or less than that number, we’re a but disappointed. What displacement do you love seeing or hearing about regardless of engine or vehicle its attached to?
For me, 3.8L is all I need to see. Its always a win no matter what engine or vehicle it’s attached to. But 5.5L, awful number for a displacement. Either add 0.2L or subtract 0.2L. Yuck!

6.6 liter. For when you just need to gtfo- drop a 400 in that bad boy. Torque for days. Driven two(Pontiac, olds) and I love them both.

For me it is 1.6L, I had a few different sizes: 3.5L (Honda Odyssey), 4L (Nissan Frontier), 1.8L (Ponatic Vibe, Chevy Sonic), and what I currently own 1.6L (Nissan Juke).

1.0, 3.0, 4.0, and 6.0. For some reason I could care less about 2.0 and 5.0 though, and I don’t know why (I drive a car with a 2.0L even!). I just know I like nice even numbers, and those ones happen to line up quite nicely with certain cylinder counts — 3, 6, 8, and 12 respectively.

0.5L per cylinder seems a good spot. I’ve had a 2L Inline 4 N/A, 2L Inline 4 Turbo and 3L V6 Na.
Current stable is 2L Inline 4 turbo, 4.7L(?) V8, 3L V6 N/A and 0.6L Inline 4 N/A

1.149L because why not? Twingo ftw! Further I’ve always liked 4.2 better than 4.0.
In cubic inches I prefer the 427.

Apparently I favor 4.3Ls. Which make nice noises when they have aftermarket exhaust like mine does.

Being kind of a Ford guy my favorites include;
5.4, 5.0, 7.3, 351, 300, and 460.
There aren’t any that I particularly dislike (except maybe 4.6) but those are my favorites.

Really anything Chevy V8 I like, but on top of the lists is the 327 and the 409. I mean who doesn’t love a motor that has its own catchy song?

6 3/4 Liter. There’s just something about the fact that it’s fractional rather than decimal, and then also accurate to the 100ths place rather than to the 10ths. And it just sounds so elegant to say. Also a 6.7L (409 ci) because I like the Beach Boys.

2.8L/3.4L as in the GM 60 degree pushrod V6
4.2L as in the Audi one, as unreliable as it may be
5.0L/5.7L but only the GM ones, none of the Ford 4.95 rounded up to 5.0 stuff.
But really, mostly because I know these engines pretty well.. and yes I know that’s missing the point a bit.

I’m trying to ignore my biases here, and regardles of it’s application in vehicles I don’t care for, it just sounds right.

I’m going on how it sounds coming off the tongue, trying to leave brand out of it (5.3 being the obvious exception).
But even if I wasn’t, no. I’m not a fan of Subaru’s 3.6, it produces power but it makes a horrible noise doing it. GM’s 3.6 is only OK with a pair of turbos. It has the power numbers to grab headlines but torque figures paint you the real picture. It just doesn’t MOVE unless you rev it out. And COME ON GM, as one of your fanboys (can’t deny it) I’m telling you, GET THAT 3.6 OUT OF THE COLORADO. IT’S NOT A TRUCK ENGINE BY ANY MEANS.

i have been threatening to put together either a 231 sbc v8(267 block, with a 283 crank), or a 324 sbc v8(400 block with 283 crank).......... also been working out how best to do a crank to crank (nose to tail) twin engine set up, so that instead of having 400 horse worth of lazy low stress(low dollar) 454, i could end up with 800 horses worth of 908 cubes of low stress low dollar performance, to the tune of.......... 14.8 liters? contemplating getting a panel van for THAT one.........or even 2 500ci caddys
